Writer Coaching

Everyone gets stuck now and then. Writer coaching helps clients define the direction of their manuscript or just provide a much-needed accountability partner. This is meant to get clients back on the right track and help them stay there. Often paired with developmental editing.

Developmental editing

Developmental editing aims to create a solid outline and structure for a manuscript or clarify the writing style, content, or organization of a manuscript. This is for clients who know what they want to do but don’t know where to start. Learn more about developmental editing.

Stylistic editing

Stylistic editing (a.k.a., substantive or line editing) is meant for completed manuscripts, when clients are satisfied with content, structure, and organization. Stylistic editing looks at paragraph organization and transitions between sections and paragraphs; it also tackles redundancy, jargon, sexist language, awkward construction, excessive use of passive voice, wordiness, logic, tone, and more. Copyediting

Copyediting focuses on the smaller details of a manuscript. A copyedit will correct for errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation, style, usage, sentence structure, sentence length, and paragraph length. Learn more about copyediting.

Fact-checking

A full fact-check digs deep into a manuscript, ensuring concepts, quotes, physical descriptions, product claims, and more are accurate. A light fact-check reviews easily verifiable facts, such as names, URLs, and dates. Either can be paired with copyediting.

Proofreading

This is the last review of a manuscript before it’s published. Proofreading includes correcting copy for typos, spelling, grammar, punctuation, usage, and style. Learn more about proofreading.
